MONDAY

This afternoon, the mentors and career councelors of seven HAVO and VWO classes kicked off the project regarding profile choice. The students sat ready in the auditorium with green and beige cards to investigate their position. Many students wanted to choose the most interesting profile, some the profile with the most options.

Afterwards, under the supervision of their mentors or teacher, they investigated which studies fit the different profiles and where they could possibly be followed. They did a career test and started on the daily task. Their findings can be viewed on Thursday in the various magazines that are being produced tonight at home. (handing on magister)

Some classes also had their first presentation by bovenbouw teachers about subjects they don't have right now.

Tomorrow the topic wil. be talents and skill. For now have a good evening and check out what they've done today. Talk about the different exercises and maybe take the careertest yourself.... https://www.inholland.nl/studie-kiezen/studiekeuzetest/

Today, the focus of our project week was on discovering personal talents and qualities. It was an important opportunity for our students to reflect on who they are and to better understand why certain subjects or study paths suit them.To kick things off, the students took the 16 Personalities Test, a fun and accessible way to gain insight into their strengths and preferences. The test provided them with a clearer picture of whether they are more analytical, creative, or socially inclined. If you’re curious and would like to try the test yourself, click here.

Building on the test results, the students then worked on their daily task. They had the option to choose between two creative assignments. Some designed a coat of arms that represented their talents and qualities through symbols and colors, while others wrote a story about their future selves, imagining how their skills and talents would help them achieve their goals. These tasks not only encouraged creativity but also helped students articulate their strengths in a meaningful way. If you’d like to see what your child has been working on, take a look at their project booklet—it’s a wonderful way to spark a conversation about their unique abilities. While many students already have a good idea of the subjects they wish to choose, we’ve noticed that some still struggle to explain why these subjects are a good fit for them. They also find it challenging to describe what the subjects entail and how they can excel in them. To address this, tomorrow we will have discussions with students who have already made their subject choices. These students will share their experiences and provide tips to help their peers make more confident and informed decisions.

It’s worth mentioning that a few students had to stay a little longer today to complete or correct their daily tasks from yesterday. In some cases, assignments weren’t uploaded as PDFs or placed in the correct location. We kindly ask you to check in at home to ensure that everything is submitted correctly moving forward. Working together, we can help ensure all tasks are completed on time.

On another note, we wrapped up the final presentations from subject teachers today. We aim to publish these presentations tomorrow so that every student can access them and gather even more information to support their decisions.

The atmosphere today was inspiring, with students engaged in their tasks, sharing insights with one another, and making significant strides in their personal growth. We’re excited for tomorrow, where we’ll continue these important conversations, publish the presentations, and take the next steps in guiding our students toward making the best possible choices. If you have any questions or would like advice on how to support your child in their decision-making process, feel free to reach out to us.

Together, we can help them succeed.

WEDNESDAY

22 January

Today was an important day for our H3 and V3 students as they took another step in exploring the advantages and challenges of choosing specific subjects and subject combinations.

Fortunately, today was all about asking questions! Students from the second and third years were visited by older students and could ask them about their experiences. In small groups, they could inquire about what it’s like to study in the upper school, how challenging subjects like economics really are, how cluster classes work, and how to manage homework. Both helpful and less helpful advice was shared. For instance, students were warned that taking an additional contract subject is quite demanding and only manageable if they have extra time and energy to dedicate.

Some students realized they hadn’t finished their homework for Monday or Tuesday yet and had to catch up before moving on.This evening, the students have homework: to choose their preferred profile. Tomorrow, they will take a closer look at their choices and prepare a presentation for their parents. We encourage parents to take an active role in this process at home.

Remember, your child has now become the expert on the pros and cons of their options. Engage in a conversation, listen to their reasoning, and discuss the considerations together. We look forward to seeing you tomorrow (Thursday) at around 3:30 PM to review the results of their profile choices. Mentors and academic advisors will also be available to answer any remaining questions you may have.

See you tomorrow!
